Yeah I think I'm done with VST stuff and need something that can bring the tones on the way in, BUT I like impulses & decent cabinets...so going to get another Eleven Rack soon and the EPSi to load up some Ownhammers, then I'll have what I wanted all along & maybe my kid can use it for his live stuff (or just keep it bc I haven't had the time). He's doing good on his Line 6 and will do even better with an 11R (probably without impulses like daddy has to use lol) And in all reality, if you want to utilize your DAW to the fullest, it's going to be busy with your drum sampler, synth, console EQs, and mastering stuff and the last thing it needs is to be running amp sims.
Where the sound comes from is far less important than being happy with the tone in the first place. If VSTs aren't your thing, or aren't practical... then you're quite correct to put them aside. Go with what makes you happy... happy ears make for better playing.
I finally tried the Tonestack, it has much lower latency than Jamup/BIAS on my iPhone 5. It is almost undetectable. However, it doesn't sound as polished as Jamup/BIAS. I really hope Positive Grid can improve the latency issue, then I will be very happy.
I'm still going through some options wondering if it'll be Eleven Rack/EPSi or X interface/Bias...This makes it sound great, and I enjoyed the feel of the Jamup app a lot esp for leads...but damnit, I don't want to rely on a laptop or a phone. Eleven Rack is about $300 or so on eBay now & my son might like it and I can use apps when he is out jamming or whatever.
This video tonematched a Steve Vai lead tone & it sure sounds like Vai's perfect lead tones. I just gotta give credit where credit is due, people are getting great sounds with this plugin now. I honestly haven't had much time to test it because my kid is getting stingy with lending his guitar so I don't even know what I can do with it, but need a better interface that can give us zero latency in Cakewalk (like Echo Audio PCI card with a breakout box or something), then I might as well get 11R for that price lol

https://soundcloud.com/bojan-tepic/the-noble-message I loved this one^ I wasn't paying attention and just let Soundcloud keep playing and I had no idea it was this app. That's a GREAT tone & playing is excellent man. Sounds like Steve Howe/Lukather/Timmons...all the greats. Bravo.

According to what I read in the comments, this was the GR-55 re-amped. Not sure if that means a track re-amped through the GR-55, or originally played through the GR-55 then re-amped through something else.
